Back Electro Magnetic force. A linear motor, when operated, also acts as a generator. The Back EMF describes the coefficient between the generated voltage and the speed of the motor [V/m/s]. When the generated Voltage is nearly equal to the bus voltage of the system the motor cannot run any faster.
